About Palo Mayombe

Palo Mayombe is a powerful Afro-Cuban spiritual tradition with origins in the Congo Basin of Central Africa. Carried across the Atlantic through the African diaspora, it has preserved the deep ancestral knowledge of the Congo Spirituality while adapting to new lands and communities.

At the heart of Palo Mayombe is the Nkisi—a sacred vessel that embodies the presence of spirits and natural forces. These vessels are prepared and guided by the Nganga (priest or healer), who serves as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. Through ritual, divination, offerings, and communion with nature, Palo Mayombe seeks to bring healing, justice, guidance, and protection to those in need.

Unlike many traditions that separate the spiritual from the natural, Palo Mayombe emphasizes the living energy of the earth—its woods, rivers, animals, and ancestors—as the foundation of spiritual power. It is a tradition of respect, responsibility, and reciprocity, recognizing that humans are part of a larger balance within creation.

Today, Palo Mayombe continues to be practiced worldwide, keeping alive a legacy of resilience, wisdom, and connection to the unseen forces that shape our lives.
